DHFS will notify providers when it’s time to begin the revalidation process and has resources available to assist you. Please follow these steps to ensure a smooth revalidation:
What is Revalidation? The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) mandates that state Medicaid programs revalidate all actively enrolled Medicaid providers at least every five years. This requirement applies to all Medicaid providers.
Due to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE), revalidations due in calendar year 2020 were paused. Starting September 3, 2024, all providers were required to revalidate based on their enrollment date. Failing to revalidate will result in removal from the Medicaid program, preventing providers from billing for services rendered to some of their most vulnerable patients and clients.
Providers will receive a revalidation notice 90 calendar days before their Illinois Medicaid revalidation cycle end date, with a second notice sent 30 calendar days before the end of the revalidation cycle.
