ISDS Foundation Supports Illinois Dental Schools

The Illinois State Dental Society Foundation is proud to announce its continued support for dental education in Illinois through the Dr. Keith and Peggy Dickey Dental Education Endowment Fund program. This year, the Foundation is funding three major projects at the state's dental schools, each aimed at improving student training, expanding access to care, and strengthening the dental workforce. $9,000 will be awarded to each school at this year's ISDS Annual Session.

At the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry, Foundation support is making possible a major technology upgrade for the Student Academic Success Center. The grant will fund the installation of an interactive Neat Board video conferencing device, enhancing the center’s role as a hub for meetings, academic support, and disability accommodation testing. This upgrade will improve accessibility, collaboration, and the overall student experience.

Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine will use Foundation funding to expand its innovative Pathways to Dental Careers Program. The grant will allow SIU to reach more middle school, high school, and college students—especially those from underrepresented or underserved backgrounds—with hands-on dental workshops, oral health education, career panels, and follow-up activities. The goal is to inspire the next generation of oral health professionals and address dental care shortages across Illinois.

The College of Dental Medicine-Illinois at Midwestern University has requested support for the purchase of a SprintRay Midas 3D printing unit. This advanced mobile device will enable students and faculty to provide same-day crowns and restorations, particularly for underserved and special-needs populations, both in the clinic and during community outreach events. The technology will expand restorative services, improve patient outcomes, and provide students with vital experience in cutting-edge digital dentistry.

Through these investments, the ISDS Foundation is helping Illinois dental schools shape a skilled, compassionate workforce while bringing quality oral health care and education to those who need it most.
